BGSU will continue to make decisions in the best interest of public health. When we do host in-person commencement ceremonies, you will have an invitation to participate.

Frequently Asked Questions
We are adjusting our plans for fall 2020 from in-person commencement ceremonies to an online virtual celebration. If you have additional questions, please email commencement@bgsu.edu.
The virtual celebration was held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11 a.m. EST. Graduates, family and friends can view the celebration at bgsu.edu/commencement or Facebook Live. There is no need to register for this virtual event.
A virtual celebration is an opportunity for the University to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020 on the originally scheduled date. During this celebration, you will hear from President Rogers, the chair of the Board of Trustees, and some of our most notable alumni. The virtual celebration does not replace a future in-person commencement ceremony.
After the livestream, videos of graduate names separated by college will be available to view at the commencement website.
Due to print and recording deadlines, we may not be able to include late graduate applicants. The program and name deadline is approximately 3 weeks prior to the celebration. The name recording deadline is approximately 2 weeks prior to the celebration. If you have any questions, please contact commencement@bgsu.edu.
Undergraduates will be mailed their Latin Honors cords at least 2 weeks prior to the celebration. Visit the Academic Honors page for more information and direct any questions to graduation@bgsu.edu or the Office of Registration and Records at 419-372-8441.
Upon verification of completion of degree requirements, a printed diploma, diploma cover and commencement program will be mailed to each graduate approximately 3-6 weeks following the celebration. A notification to claim a digital version of the diploma will be sent to the graduate’s BGSU email within 1-3 weeks after the celebration.
Once you receive your digital diploma notification, your printed diploma will be mailed within 1 to 2 weeks. You will also receive a Parchment notification when your printed diploma has been sent.
Please note that transcripts will not be available until 3 weeks after the celebration, provided you have completed all degree requirements.
Each degree candidate is confirmed by the candidate’s academic college. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure all degree requirements are fulfilled via their MyBGSU degree audit. Colleges may communicate via BGSU email regarding outstanding requirements that would delay the confirmation of a degree.
Please direct questions regarding diplomas to graduation@bgsu.edu or the Office of Registration and Records at 419-372-8441.
In light of current restrictions on public gatherings, we are not able to set a date at this time. However, the University is fully committed to celebrating in person when it safe and practical to do so. When we do host in-person commencement ceremonies, you will have an invitation to participate. Please continue to check your BGSU email and the commencement website for future updates.
