Suggestion Box

The Psychology Department, with all of BGSU, strives to be a welcoming and inclusive community. Sometimes problems will arise, and we encourage you to please feel free to talk to your advisor, trusted colleague, area head, or Department Chair with any concerns.

In addition to these other avenues, the department has an anonymous suggestion box that can be used.

What is this?

The suggestion box is an anonymous place to provide feedback that will be read directly by Carolyn Tompsett, the Psychology Department Chair.

We made sure to use an online platform that is 100% anonymous (i.e., no tracking any of your information or metadata like IP addresses, latitude-longitudes, or timestamps that many survey platforms automatically collect) because it’s important that our students have a platform to provide completely honest feedback without worrying about any repercussions.

I (Carolyn) read all submissions myself and may share de-identified suggestions with other departmental faculty who have undergone the ALLIES training on diversity/equity/inclusion in academic settings when necessary. These faculty include: Clare Barratt, Meagan Docherty, Dryw Dworsky, Sherona Garrett-Ruffin, Melissa Keith, Samuel McAbee, Dara Musher-Eizenman, Carolyn Tompsett, Jari Willing, and Mike Zickar.

Why use this?

We want to hear from you! Use this platform as a way to make and share suggestions, comments, complaints, or any other feedback that you have for us.

Our goal for the suggestion box is to have a space for those things that the department should be made aware of – both good and bad – that may be too sensitive to have names attached and are not serious enough for a direct incident report. Please note that anonymous suggestions are more likely to lead to slower or broader action than a direct report. For example, an anonymous complaint regarding a specific class may lead to a change in how we run that type of class generally but may not lead to a change in that class that semester.

For issues that are urgent or that need an immediate, direct response please do not hesitate to use the BGSU incident reporting system for any type of bias-related concern: bgsu.edu/report-incident.html or email Carolyn Tompsett, the Psychology Department Chair, directly at cjtomps@bgsu.edu
