Holiday season begins with ArtsXtravaganza at BGSU

BOWLING GREEN, O.—The lush sounds and swirl of Carnevale will fill the Fine Arts Center and the Wolfe Center for the Arts at this year’s ArtsXtravaganza at Bowling Green State University. From 6-10 p.m. on Nov. 30, the community is invited to share an evening of music, art, theater, dance, shopping and activities for the whole family.

ArtsX is the occasion for the University’s artists and performers to show off their talents and creations and for the community to enjoy a unique venue for holiday shopping and entertainment. Food and beverages will be available as well.

“This is the time when we can bring all our wildly talented students and faculty together to showcase great things,” said co-organizer Lori Young, chair of the Division of Graphic Design. “It really shows the importance of the arts in our lives.”

“In a way, ArtsX is our gift to the community,” said Heather Elliott-Famularo, chair of the digital arts department. “Anyone with a love for the arts should come see what BGSU, a Center of Excellence in the Arts, has to offer.”

The Fine Arts Center’s hallways will be lined with booths featuring work in ceramics, glass, metals, jewelry, printmaking, photography, digital arts and graphic design, much of it for sale. Also on display will be work by architecture and interior design students.

In the Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery, the annual faculty exhibition will open; many of the pieces will available for purchase. The Willard Wankelman Gallery will offer il[LUMEN]ate, an exhibition of collaborative video installations by digital arts and film students, along with a Japanese tea ceremony.

Visitors can step outside to see the latest art created by BGSU graphic design students to adorn TARTA buses; the exteriors of the Fine Arts Center and the Wolfe Center will be turned into a lighted, moving canvas with video projection mapping.

Visitors can design their own T-shirts and have them printed on the spot in the printmaking classroom. Student groups will offer henna tattoos, face painting and caricatures, and the art education students will host an entire room of fun activities for children.

Vocal and instrumental ensembles from the College of Musical Arts will provide entertainment from 6-8 p.m. in the lobby of the Wolfe Center and from 6-10 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center.

A map and program schedule will help visitors be sure to see and visit everything they are interested in.

The studios in the Wolfe Center will also be open, and visitors can see the latest in digital art created by students and faculty as well as costume design and theater workshops.

Two performances will be taking place on campus that evening as well to kick off the season. In the Wolfe Center’s Donnell Theatre, “A Christmas Carol” will begin at 8 p.m. And in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center, the New York Polyphony, a cappella vocal group, will present “I Sing the Birth” as part of the Festival Series. Their performance also begins at 8 p.m.

Tickets for both can be purchased by calling the Arts Box Office at 419-372-8171.
