Bullins, Hennessy named ‘BG Best’

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Two administrative staff members named among the “BG Best” by their peers were recognized at the Administrative Staff spring reception April 12.

Dr. Nicholas Hennessy, campus sustainability coordinator, and Christopher Bullins, associate dean of students for fraternity and sorority life, have improved campus life in creative ways.

Hennessy has inspired students, faculty and staff to be more conscious in their daily lives and to take important steps to reducing their own and the campus’s environmental impact.

From “green tailgating” at athletic events to the orange bike program to recycling in the residence halls and Greek Life units, Hennessy has helped facilitate a number of initiatives. One of the biggest has been the Office of Residence Life’s “When You Move Out, Don’t Throw it Out” Program. Hennessy observed residential students throwing out all types of reusable items at the end of the school year. “What started out as a small amount of items being tucked away in the former Saddlemire building has now grown into a program that generates enough items to fill up an entire Goodwill store. The items collected are donated to several local agencies including the Cherry Street Mission, the Women’s Shelter, agricultural migrant laborers, and a host of food banks within Bowling Green,” a nominator wrote.

A nominator wrote of Bullins, “Since his appointment in October of 2011, Chris has transformed the Fraternity and Sorority Life program at Bowling Green State University. Based on his knowledge and understanding of successful fraternity and sorority experiences, Chris was quick to implement a number of priorities that focused on risk management procedures, policies related to successful chapter operations, improvement of relations with constituency groups (e.g., alumni, advisors, and headquarters staff), and enhancement of chapter support initiatives offered through the University. During the past academic year Chris has taken on a number of significant projects and responsibilities including: the advising of Graduate Student Senate, Graduate Student Professional Development within the Division of Student Affairs, and Off Campus Student Services. Additionally, a project that Chris has taken a critical leadership role in is the Greek Housing Project. Overall, Chris has consistently demonstrated a tremendous level of dedication, genuine care and concern for the development of his staff, and a fostering of student growth and development within both the leadership and membership of the BGSU Greek community.”
