Dear Alumni and Friends,

BGSU kicked off the new year with a national championship victory for the co-ed cheerleading squad. The Falcons' top finish at the annual competition in Orlando, Fla., is the highest a Mid-American Conference school has ever placed. It is the fifth consecutive year the BGSU squad has placed in the top five in the country.

The BGSU community accepted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s challenge to help others as more than 800 students, faculty and staff members assisted at organizations in 51 sites across northwest Ohio in this year's Day of Service Challenge on Jan. 20.

Now is the time of year to nominate a deserving Falcon for the Academy of Distinguished Alumni. You have until Feb. 28 to submit an online nomination form for BGSU's most distinguished honor.

If you're lucky enough to be in Florida in February, I invite you to join me in Cape Coral for an alumni reception and discussion about the BGSU community and our upcoming opportunities. Registration available online.

The Festival Series continues with pianist Jeremy Denk in February and the Improvised Shakespeare Company. Tickets available online.

BGSU once again made national headlines with a family profile study from the Center for Family and Marriage Research that found the percentage of households with just one person has more than doubled since 1960 from 13 to 27 percent.

As we approach the critical time when high school seniors are finalizing their college decisions, I invite you to remind students you may know about the great opportunities that await them at BGSU.
