BGSU to open 'The Art of Diversity' showcase featuring works from University community, Wood, Lucas, Erie county artists

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bringing the University's mission to life in visual and performance art, "The Art of Diversity: Art for the Public Good" opens Saturday, Jan. 14 in the Willard Wankelman Gallery at the School of Art in the Fine Arts Center at Bowling Green State University.

Hosted by the BGSU Division of Diversity and Belonging and the Fine Arts Center Galleries at BGSU, the second annual showcase and competition will feature works and performances by K-12 students and community members from Wood, Lucas and Erie counties as well as BGSU students, faculty and staff members.

Community members are invited to attend a free in-person gallery highlighting visual arts winners in the Willard Wankelman Gallery at the BGSU School of Art. Regular viewing hours for The Art of Diversity: Art for the Public Good are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Saturday, Jan. 14 through Friday, Jan. 20.

Artists whose work was chosen for the showcase will be recognized at the gallery opening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 and showcase winners will be announced during the gallery closing event from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20.

Performance art winners will be featured in the virtual gallery on The Art of Diversity page beginning Jan. 14.

Entries are evaluated based on originality, interpretation of the theme (i.e., art for the public good), creative technique, composition and appearance/sound.

Best in Show winners have the opportunity to select an arts workshop or experience that the Division of Diversity and Belonging will sponsor up to a $250 value. The Best in Show high school senior winner (individual, not group, entries for visual or performing arts) will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Committed to driving cultural vitality in the region, in 2022, Bowling Green State University held the inaugural Art of Diversity, "The Art of Diversity: An Introspective Journey to Belonging," featuring visual and performance art from artists in Wood, Lucas and Erie counties.
