Bowling Green State University celebrated the $3.4 million renovation of Steller Field with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 21, marking the first major upgrade to the ballpark in decades.
The baseball complex, which opened in 1964, now features a synthetic turf field that helps minimize weather-related disruptions and allows for year-round training and competition.
Additional upgrades included enhanced perimeter fencing and lighting, new batting cages, equipment and technology and custom outfield padding designed by Falcons second baseman Sam Seidel.
Following the ceremony, BGSU alumnus Paul J. Hooker ‘75 threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The renovations were funded entirely by donors, including the BGSU Baseball Advisory Group, which was instrumental in spearheading support for the Steller Field project.
University photographers and videographers Craig Bell and Haven Conn ‘22, along with student photographers Brandon Grubbs and Daniel Carlson, captured the celebration and recent home games on the new turf.
