Pro Musica hosts annual Coffee and Classics
Pro Musica will host its seventh annual “Coffee and Classics” at 10:30 a.m. March 8 in the atrium of the Wood County District Public Library at 215 N. Main St.
The public is invited to enjoy a cup of coffee and a morning chamber music concert featuring student pianists from the College of Musical Arts. Students performing have been recipients of travel grants funded through Pro Musica at the college.
The program will include: “Ondine” by Maurice Ravel, performed Peng Zhang; “Noctuelles” from ‘Miroirs” by Ravel, performed by Mengdi Li; and “Étude-Tableau in F minor, Op. 39, No. 1” by Sergei Rachmaninoff, performed by Zachary Nyce; it will conclude with Xueli Li performing Rachmaninoff’s “Étude-Tableau in C minor, Op. 39, No. 1.”
All the performers are graduate students in piano performance. Zhang, from China, and Nyce, from Elliottsburg, Pa., study with Laura Melton; Xueli, from China, studies with Robert Satterlee, and Mendgi, from China, is a student of Thomas Rosenkranz.
For 30 years Pro Musica, funded by nearly 300 alumni, friends, parents and members of the Bowling Green community, has sponsored a wide variety of musical events and provided financial support to music students for educational travel projects. In addition, the organization provides funding for scholarships and various awards at the college.
The concert is free.
