Winners named in Northwest Ohio Community Art Show

Best of Show winner 'Ablution,’ by Matthew Cook of PerrysburgBOWLING GREEN, O.—Winners in the fifth annual Northwest Ohio (NOWOH) Community Art Exhibition at Bowling Green State University have been announced.

Summer is the time when the BGSU Fine Art Center Galleries invite local artists to display their work in a professional gallery setting. The exhibition supports artists ages 16 and older of all levels of experience. This year’s show features 169 pieces from 66 area artists.

The exhibition opened with a reception for the artists on June 29, during which Gallery Director Jacqui Nathan announced the 11 award winners selected by jurors Shannon Benine and Erin Hoffman.

The final Popular Choice Award will be selected by visitors and announced at the closing of the exhibition on July 22. Each vote costs $1, and the winning artist will receive the pot.


The NOWOH Community Art Exhibition is free to the public. Gallery hours are noon-8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and noon-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Free parking in front of the Fine Arts Center is available on Saturdays and Sundays, and paid parking on Thursdays and Fridays.

Art patrons are also invited to bring their NOWOH program to Art after Hours, from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, July 14, in downtown Bowling Green, for special prices and/or discounts. Participating businesses Bowling Green Hats and Apparel, For Keeps, art-a-site!,  Grounds for Thought, Ben Franklin Crafts, Happy Badger, Calico, Sage & Thyme and SamB’s will feature special music and arts events. The community is welcome to stroll through the streets of downtown and enjoy refreshments, music and artwork, following the close of the Classics On Main Car Show. Art after Hours is sponsored by BGSU Galleries and the Bowling Green Arts Council.
