Conference to examine morality
BOWLING GREEN, O.—The next BGSU Workshop in Applied Ethics and Public Policy will address the topic of "Manipulation." The Department of Philosophy is bringing together leading scholars and experts in a variety of disciplines across the U.S. to explore the theoretical and applied issues concerning manipulation.
Influence takes many forms; some are benign, others are clearly objectionable. For example, one may influence using reasons, evidence and positive incentives, but not deception, blackmail or violent threats. Between these poles lies a large and neglected moral gray area—manipulation.
The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday (March 16 and 17) in 207 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. Sessions are free and the public is encouraged to attend.
