Travel to Lower Risk Countries
Travel to lower risk countries still requires special consideration and preparation, although not necessarily to the same extent as to high risk countries. It’s still important to take the minimum you need in order to get your work done while you’re gone. We recommend following these guidelines regardless of the risk level of your destination. However, if you are traveling to a lower risk country and it is necessary to bring a device, please be sure to follow the recommendations outlined on this page.
If traveling with a computer, please be sure to:
- Verify that your computer software is current via Qualys' BrowserCheck service.
- Make sure your computer is fully backed up and encrypted.
- Remove any documents containing Limited Access or Restricted data from your computer.
If you will need a mobile device while traveling, please consider a loaner phone borrowed in the country, an unlocked phone with a local SIM card, or a phone you buy/rent at the airport or hotel when you arrive.
If you must use your own phone, please:
- Back it up before you leave,
- Enroll in an international rate plan to avoid hefty roaming charges, and
- Save your data, reset to factory defaults and restore your backup when you return.
