Classified Staff Job Specifications

BGSU has categorized classified jobs according to “job families”. A job family is a group of jobs with similar characteristics and which are engaged in similar work. Although the level of responsibility, skill or competency will differ, the essential nature of activities carried out is similar across the job family.  While the job family helps as we look at jobs with similar characteristics and similar work they will not replace or impact the classification series that BGSU uses for retention points.

Please note: selecting the titles will show each Classification within the selected family. Selecting the Classification will show the job duties.  

Buildings and Grounds - Plan, manage, support or perform activities related to the maintenance of facilities, grounds, infrastructure, equipment and/or vehicles.
Clerical & Administrative Support - Manage, coordinate and/or support sound administrative processes that support the attainment of operational objectives. Clerical and Administrative Support
Communication/Media/Broadcasting - Create, develop, deliver or provide technical support for the production of television or video programming.

Dining Services Support – Provide services related to food preparation and delivery.
Electrical & Mechanical Services - Plan, coordinate and performs skilled electrical and/or mechanical activities related to construction, repair, installation or support of facilities, grounds and/or infrastructure.
Fiscal Support - Manage, design and/or implement sound administrative processes that support the attainment of fiscal objectives and compliance with regulatory statutes. al Support
Library Support - Acquire, catalog, and provide access to recorded knowledge, as well as assist and instruct patrons on the usage of library materials and resource center facilities.
Medical Services – Provide direct/indirect medical treatment and/or perform medical support functions.

Medical Assistant

Parking and Safety - Manage or enforce campus parking and security/safety, adherence to laws and codes of conduct.
Research Support - Manage, conduct or support research and/or maintains labs in areas such as animal science, science, agriculture, natural history, sociology or business.
Student/Academic Support Services - Provide guidance to students, faculty and staff on academic, personal, or career issues.
Technical Support Services - Analyze, develop or instruct information technology for faculty, staff, students or clients of the University. For example; programming, systems analysis, database development and support.
