Center of Excellence in the Arts

Bowling Green State University’s Center of Excellence in the Arts is based on a strong foundation of quality in our separate arts programs along with a proven track record of successful collaboration and leadership. The arts are central to a liberal arts education, the core mission of our University. Our Center of Excellence offers nationally recognized professional arts programs, and also attracts academically gifted and diverse students to all our academic programs. Three interlocking tiers of achievement distinguish us from our Ohio peers in the arts: arts leadership and scholarship, campus arts synergy, and community engagement and societal impact.

Arts Leadership and Scholarship

Faculty, students and alumni in the arts at BGSU are internationally recognized for their scholarship and creative work, and for their leadership in new media.

We extend the boundaries of knowledge about the arts and innovation, arts pedagogies and
new media, we create and recreate important works with and for our students and communities, and we bring new products to the marketplace.

Campus Arts Synergy

BGSU arts are characterized by strong collaborations among and beyond the arts disciplines.

Successful collaboration among the arts has become our signature, creating new opportunities for our students and faculty in a rich interdisciplinary environment that stimulates creativity

Community Engagement and Societal Impact

The arts at BGSU are an important part of the Northwest Ohio creative economy, a dynamic force that generates more than $2.4 billion in economic activity, sustains 30,000 jobs, many with above average salaries, and contributes $250 million in tax revenue annually.

Broad partnerships with regional and national organizations give our students access to professional arts resources; our Arts Advocates, a shared board of advisors, promote the BGSU brand.
