Graduate Application Instructions

Review admission requirements

  • Graduate applicants must have earned a four-year U.S. baccalaureate degree, or equivalent, from a regionally accredited college or university, or complete the degree prior to enrollment.
  • Each graduate program may have its own additional admission requirements.

Review program-specific requirements

Qualified BGSU undergraduate students who are earning their bachelor’s degree may also be eligible to apply to an accelerated bachelor’s to master’s program. Review our list of programs with an accelerated bachelor’s to master’s pathway.

NOTE: If you plan to apply to more than one program, you must submit a separate application and application fee for each program.

Submit with your graduate application

Nonrefundable application fee

  • $45 for domestic applicants and $75 for international applicants

The application fee is automatically waived for:

  • McNair Scholars
  • U.S. military veterans
  • Returned Peace Corps volunteers,
  • K-12 public school teachers currently employed in the U.S.

Transcripts

You must submit scanned copies of official or unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended. Upon admission, you will need to send final official or notarized copies of transcripts from all institutions where degrees were earned (showing dates when the degrees were conferred) and diplomas from international institutions. Evaluations by a NACES member organization are accepted. Current or previous BGSU students do not need to request a BGSU transcript. We will obtain it for you.

Standardized test scores

The Graduate College does not require GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores for acceptance into graduate programs. However, test scores (GRE, GMAT, PRAXIS, OAE) may be required by the program. Review program-specific requirements.

The application fee for international students is $75. We will not waive application fees.  

Important note:

Upon admission to the University you will receive further enrollment information from International Student Services in the International Programs and Partnerships Office.

These programs require you to complete an application through a program-specific Centralized Application System (CAS). Consult your program for specific application directions.

Some programs are not available to international students studying on an F-1 or J-1 student visa. Review our list of programs for international students.

A graduate non-degree student is a student who has earned a 4-year degree and who wishes to enroll in graduate or undergraduate courses without pursuing another degree.  

There is no application fee.  

You may take as many credits as you like as a guest student. However, if you decide to apply to a degree-granting program, you can transfer just 9 of those credit hours to a graduate program.  

When submitting a graduate non-degree application, please allow 4 business days for processing. Confirmation will be sent to your email address once the application has been processed.  

International students who are considering taking graduate courses as a non-degree student should email the Office of International Programs and Partnerships for more information.

Applicants who have indicated a felony conviction will be notified within 1 business day if any additional information may be required.
