Bowling Green named one of the ‘Best College Towns in America’

BOWLING GREEN, O.—When students arrive at Bowling Green State University, they will find it’s part of a city that is safe, affordable and provides a number of personal and professional opportunities. These amenities are part of the reason financial website WalletHub recently named Bowling Green one of the “Best College Towns in America.”

Bowling Green came in at 28th out of 280 cities and towns on the list and is the second highest ranked city in the state.

According to WalletHub, “When touring universities and colleges, it’s important to examine not only an institution’s intellectual environment but also the city or town the student will call home for several years. Academic success depends on more than just the quality of a program. Also important is an area that is safe, affordable and conducive to personal development through a diversity of cultural and professional experiences.”

The website looked at places that promise the “best or worst combination of academic, social and economic atmospheres.” Their 23 key metrics included the quality of higher education, crime rates and the cost of living. Bowling Green ranked high in “Wallet Wellness” and “Youth Oriented Environment.”

“All you have to do is walk around downtown Bowling Green to see that it fully deserves this high ranking as one of the top college towns in America,” said BGSU President Mary Ellen Mazey. “Bowling Green’s affordability and safety make it the perfect place for our students to call home.”

“It’s great to see an outside company recognize what the residents of Bowling Green and the students at BGSU already know. Bowling Green is a great place to live and work,” said Bowling Green Mayor Dick Edwards.
