About the Division of Research

The Mission

The Division of Research supports faculty in the acquisition, performance, and administration of projects and programs funded from sources outside the University. Sponsored projects and programs include research, public service, instruction, and other scholarly or creative activities funded by external organizations.

The Division serves as the central point of coordination for grants, sponsored projects, agreements, memoranda, cooperative and other agreements, as well as contractual obligations from individuals, government, public and non-profit agenxies, and industrial, financial and pricate organizations to support sponsored activities at Bowling Green State University.

The People

The Division of Research engages across campus to complete its work under the guidance of a Leadership Team  led by the Vice President for Research.

Units within the Division include: Research & Sponsored Programs, Research Operations, Research Integrity, Research Development and Research Technology Transfer.

Advisory groups include the Research Associate Deans Council, the Faculty Senate Faculty Research Committee, the Joint Advisory Committee, and the Faculty Advisory Board.

Research Units

Research Development

Research Development (RD) provides research and professional development opportunities to support faculty success.  The unit delivers both professional development for researchers and research development support via internal initiatives and targeted development support for complex, large-scale proposals.  

Research Operations  

Research Operations (RO) supports the Division of Research by managing the financial and administrative structure. This includes oversight of division-wide budgets, faculty startup accounts, and to support research. RO’s goal is to provide transparency and efficiency in operational support, allowing faculty to focus on advancing their research.

Research & Sponsored Programs  

Research & Sponsored Programs (RSP) supports preparation and submission of all university grants, contracts and agreements for sponsored projects that include research, service, instruction, scholarly activity and creative activities.  RSP also collaborates with Grants Accounting to complete many post-award modifications/functions.  

Research Integrity  

Research Integrity (RI) provides professional guidance, support and training for faculty, staff, and student researchers to facilitate the responsible conduct of research and ensure regulatory compliance. RI maintains faculty oversight committees for human subjects, vertebrate animal subjects, biological materials, recombinant/synthetic nucleic acids, and biohazards as well as support programs for other research streams.

Research Technology Transfer  

Research Technology Transfer (RTT) supports faculty, staff, and students in commercializing creations, discoveries, and innovations developed at the University. RTT supports the BGSU mission of engaged economic and industry development by transferring innovations to external partners for further development and commercialization.

Grants Accounting  

Grants Accounting supports and works collaboratively with the university to provide post award financial services for externally funded sponsored projects. Functions of Grants Accounting include project/account setup, expenciture approval and oversight, monthly sponsor invoicing, effort certification, cost share documentation, and program income monitoring.
