3341-3-36 Classification of Undergraduate Students

1. Policy Statement and Purpose

   This university policy is part of the Undergraduate Catalog. The Undergraduate Catalog provides university academic policies and information about program requirements. The Undergraduate Catalog is updated each semester and can be found at https://catalog.bgsu.edu. Colleges and departments may have additional or more specific requirements or policies that relate to an individual program. Students are advised to become familiar with the Undergraduate Catalog as well as specific requirements and policies related to their degree program.

2. Policy

   Classification of a student as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior is determined on the basis of credit hours earned. In an undergraduate degree program a student is classified according to hours earned as follows: freshman, zero to twenty-nine hours; sophomore, thirty to fifty-nine hours; junior, sixty to eighty-nine hours; senior, ninety or more hours.

   A student who is enrolled for undergraduate coursework but who does not have a degree goal is a guest undergraduate. A student who has earned a degree and who registers for undergraduate courses without pursuing another degree enrolls as a guest degree-holder.
