BGSU Board of Trustees welcomes new members as academic year gets underway
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Under the guidance of Chair Amy Shore ’86, the Bowling Green State University Board of Trustees is welcoming local businessman and longtime University supporter Mark Remeis ’91 and undergraduate student Magnolia (Lia) McMillan as newly appointed members as the academic year gets underway.
Appointed by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, Remeis and McMillan will join fellow board members at the next Board of Trustees meeting on Aug. 28.
"The continued momentum we are experiencing at Bowling Green State University is a reflection of the dedicated leadership of our Board of Trustees," said BGSU President Rodney K. Rogers. "We are pleased to welcome Mark Remeis, who has deep roots in the Bowling Green community as a successful business leader and proud alumnus, back to his alma mater to serve as a trustee. As an undergraduate student trustee, Magnolia (Lia) McMillan will provide a crucial student voice and an innovative perspective shaped by her unique course of study. We are grateful for their commitment to serving the University and are confident their contributions will help shape our future as a public university for the public good."
Mark Remeis ’91
After graduating from BGSU in 1991 and initially leaving, Remeis decided to return to Bowling Green with his wife and Falcon Flame Michelle (Green) Remeis ’92.
"The fact that I live in Bowling Green while helping to improve the University and shape its future is something I take very seriously," Remeis said. "I am very excited to be able to bring a local perspective to the board's discussions and decisions.
"I am thankful to be part of the significant momentum happening throughout the BGSU campus. We are seeing record enrollment, growth in programs like Life Design, the implementation of an AI-focused path and technology options that align with workforce needs."
Joining his father-in-law in 2001, Remeis helped transition A.A. Green Realty, Inc. from a franchise operation to an independent brokerage in Bowling Green. Today, Remeis is a licensed broker who runs the company, handles the day-to-day operations and actively works with his wife, Michelle, and other family members, managing their investment properties through Mecca Management.
"We raised our two children here and have loved the amazing experiences that were available thanks to Bowling Green being a college town," said Remeis. "Bowling Green offers a unique combination of a small-town feel where you know so many of your neighbors, all while sitting next to a world-class university that offers Division I athletics."
Remeis replaces Dr. Richard Ross, who served on the BGSU Board of Trustees from 2016 to 2025. Remeis will serve a nine-year term through May 16, 2034.
Magnolia (Lia) McMillan
McMillan joins the board as the undergraduate student representative, replacing Cole Nemeth. McMillan will serve a two-year term through May 16, 2027.
Entering her second year at BGSU, McMillan has combined various coursework options to pursue a unique career.
"Design thinking is part of the University's DNA," McMillan said. "It is the only school with a combination of art, engineering, entrepreneurship, sociology and pop culture essentials, allowing me to create my own major in product and service design with an emphasis on accessibility."
Serving as the undergraduate student trustee over the next two years, McMillan is excited to bring a student perspective and priorities to the board.
"I look forward to being part of the board, serving my fellow students and working to fulfill the University's mission as a public university for the public good," she said.
