Falcons flock to BGSU Firelands for Campus Family Campaign

BGSU Firelands employees have increased participation and the amount raised in the Campus Campaign through “Firelands Falcon Flockings,” in which employees donated to the Campus Campaign in $10 increments to “flock” other offices with Falcon heads and other bird-related balloons and materials.

This year’s Campus Campaign has inspired some creative efforts to enlist support for BGSU students and employees from the University family.

As the campaign draws to a close on Thursday (June 30), BGSU Firelands employees can be proud of both boosting participation significantly and the fun they had in the process.

Firelands launched “Firelands Falcon Flockings,” in which employees donated to the Campus Campaign in $10 increments to “flock” other offices with Falcon heads and other bird-related balloons and materials.

“This was the first time that we tried this initiative and it has been a success,” said Jayme Skelly, marketing, community relations, alumni and development. “Our Campus Campaign Committee knew that we needed to find a new way to approach the campaign. The flockings have brought in more than $1,800 in gifts to the University.”

Participating employees could flock another office for a suggested donation of $10, or six offices for $50, migrate a flock to another office for $15 or block a single flocking for $10.

“My tally shows that we flocked 67 offices, migrated 15 flocks, had five blocks and one person made a donation to ban all flocks,” Skelly said. “In addition to raising funds for worthy causes within the University, we have nearly doubled our participation rate for Campus Campaign, brought in a few first-time gifts from individuals, and raised morale on the campus.

“Our Campus Campaign Committee is continuing to work to increase our participation percentage for the current fiscal year, but it is obvious that the ‘Firelands Falcon Flockings’ have had a positive impact and we hope to see it continue and grow in coming years.”

There’s still time to contribute to the campaign and support students’ success through scholarships and enhancement of programs.
