Master of Criminal Justice online program one of the best in the country
BOWLING GREEN, O.—Bowling Green State University’s master’s of criminal justice online program is the best in Ohio and one of the top 10 in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report.
In the magazine’s 2016 rankings of online programs, the BGSU program came in at number 10, a significant improvement over last year’s 17th ranking.
“We are so pleased that BGSU is the only Ohio school in the top 10,” said Dr. Marie Huff, dean of the College of Health and Human Services. “Under the exemplary leadership of Dr. Melissa Burek, associate professor and graduate coordinator for criminal justice, the program continues to grow.”
“The BGSU difference is the faculty-student connection,” said Burek. “Just because our students aren’t on campus doesn’t mean they are isolated. We are very open to working directly with our online students and making sure we are accessible, and you don’t always get that with other programs.”
“This degree demonstrates that an applied, online program strategically offered in condensed sessions meets a very real need in our workforce at the state and national levels,” said Dr. Paul Cesarini, assistant vice provost for online and summer academic programs.
Students in the program are usually already employed in jobs such as case managers, detectives, juvenile detention center officers and probation officers and are pursuing the master’s degree to further their careers and advance their education.
“Our criminal justice faculty are nationally renowned and bring real-world experience to their teaching,” said BGSU President Mary Ellen Mazey. “This ranking demonstrates we are providing a quality program that prepares graduates for leadership roles.”
U.S. News developed its list of best online master’s degree programs in criminal justice based on factors such as student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, admissions selectivity and peer selection.
