Fidelio Trio to give contemporary music concert

Contemporary Irish musicians The Fidelio Trio will perform at the University on Nov. 13 as part of the Music at the Forefront concert series sponsored by BGSU’s MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music (MACCM).

The performance begins at 8 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall at the Moore Musical Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public, and features works by Donnacha Dennehy, Charles Wuorinen, Michael Nyman, John Harbison and Johannes Maria Staud.

Violinist Darragh Morgan, pianist Mary Dullea and cellist Deirdre Cooper perform a diverse, international repertoire. They broadcast regularly on Great Britain’s BBC Radio 3, Ireland’s RTÉ Lyric FM, New York City’s WNYC and National Public Radio and in 2010 were featured in a Sky Arts documentary.

Since their debut at London’s South Bank they have appeared in concerts and festivals around Ireland, Great Britain and Europe, and in China, South Africa and the U.S.

In promoting contemporary music, the trio regularly commissions new works, and the range of leading international composers with whom they are closely associated includes Toshio Hosokawa, Wuorinen, Staud and Nyman.

The Fidelio Trio’s most recent CD release features Korngold’s “Piano Trio, Op. 1” and Schoenberg’s “Verklärte Nacht” on Naxos; this year they will record the complete Schumann Piano Trios for Resonus Classics. Their extensive discography includes Luke Bedford’s debut portrait CD on Col Legno as the Ernst von Siemens composer award winner 2012.

The trio has worked closely with composition and performance students on contemporary music through master classes and residencies at institutions around the world.

Music at the Forefront is an annual concert series featuring performances by accomplished and innovative performers of contemporary music. For more information, contact MACCM Director Kurt Doles at 419-372-2685 or kdoles@bgsu.edu.
