Advanced Manufacturing
June 1 - 5, 2026
Camp Scholarship Notice
We are excited to announce that campers admitted based on their application will not be required to pay a camp fee thanks to generous scholarship support.
Camp Description
Students will have an opportunity to explore several aspects of manufacutirng over the course of the week. The camp will feature two workshops and one field trip day. Please see detailed information below.
Robotics Workshop:
This engaging two-day workshop introduces high school students to the exciting world of electronics and robotics. Participants will explore fundamental electronics concepts, gain hands-on experience building circuits with components like LEDs, resistors, and sensors, and learn basic programming skills using platforms such as Arduino. By the end of the workshop, students will assemble and program a robotic system to perform tasks.
Key Activities:
- Build and understand basic electronic circuits using LEDs, resistors, and sensors.
- Learn programming essentials to control circuits using Arduino or similar platforms.
- Design, assemble, and program a robot to complete tasks like navigating obstacles or following a line.
3D Printing Workshop:
This hands-on workshop offers participants a comprehensive introduction to 3D printing, covering the entire process from conceptual design to functional component testing. Participants will learn to create CAD models, starting with 2D sketches and progressing to solid modeling, using industry-standard software. The session will include an in-depth guide on using slicing software to convert CAD models into 3D printer-ready files, focusing on optimizing settings for various materials and printing techniques. The workshop culminates with a live demonstration of 3D printing and testing of manufactured components, providing participants with practical insights into design validation and performance evaluation.
Explore the exciting world of 3D printing in this interactive workshop designed for participants of all skill levels. Gain valuable skills in every step of the process, from initial design to manufacturing and testing.
Key Activities:
- CAD Modeling: Master the basics of computer-aided design (CAD) by creating 2D sketches and transforming them into solid 3D models using industry-standard software.
- Slicing Software: Learn how to prepare your designs for 3D printing by using slicing software to optimize settings for precision and performance.
- 3D Printing in Action: Witness the transformation of digital models into physical components with live 3D printing demonstrations.
- Testing and Evaluation: Discover how to test and evaluate the performance of manufactured components for functionality and reliability.
Glass Manufacturing Workshop:
This hands-on workshop offers participants a comprehensive introduction to glass manufacturing techniques, with a focus on the printability of glass using Digital Light Processing (DLP) and sintering methods. Topics include melting, DLP-based glass printing, sintering, mechanical testing, and material characterization. The workshop will cover key aspects of glass manufacturability, including slicing software customization for materials such as silica glass and composites.
Key Activities:
- Live demonstrations of silica glass manufacturability
- Hands-on testing of manufactured components to analyze their mechanical properties and functional performance
- Develop computer-aided designs (CAD), focusing on 3D models optimized for both manufacturing and testing
- Learn how to prepare designs for 3D printing using slicing software.
- Explore methods to evaluate the mechanical properties of printed glass components, including tensile and compressive strength.
- Learn about microstructural analysis and surface characterization.
