BGSU Center for Archival Collections invites the community to participate in Cursive for a Cause

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - As part of the national AmeriCorps Week of Service, the Bowling Green State University Center for Archival Collections invites the learning and greater community to participate in Cursive for a Cause from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 9 in the Pallister Conference Room at the Jerome Library.

In collaboration with ServeOhio, the state's commission on service and volunteerism, the free event will support the preservation of women’s history through volunteer transcription of handwritten, cursive historical documents housed in the BGSU Center for Archival Collections.

During the event, volunteers will read handwritten cursive documents and use provided laptops to create typed transcripts of the materials.

Bolstering academic research, the transcription of local women’s lives, works and contributions will make the handwritten materials searchable, digital resources that support accessibility and public history now and into the future.

Advance registration is encouraged for the event, with walk-ins welcome. Prior experience with archives or transcription is not required, and volunteers may contribute as much time as they would like to the event.
