BGSU to welcome Olympian, social activist Tom Daley for community conversation on Nov. 10

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University will welcome Olympian and social activist Tom Daley to campus for a community conversation at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater.

A British diving great, Daley became Great Britain’s second youngest male Olympian when he competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games at just 14 years old. Daley, who began diving at the age of 7, competed in his second Olympics in 2012 and won an individual bronze medal. He has competed in every Summer Olympics since and has won a total of four Olympic medals, including gold at the 2020 Tokyo Games. During the Tokyo Games, Daley gained international popularity for knitting and crocheting in the stands while watching other athletes compete.

In addition to being an athlete, Daley is also a social activist who champions for LGBTQ+ rights and causes and was recently featured in the new documentary, "Illegal to Be Me." Daley is married to Academy Award-winning filmmaker, writer and social activist Dustin Lance Black, who visited BGSU in February as part of the 2022 Edwin H. Simmons Creative Minds Series.

Daley's free public keynote will have limited seating with seats available on a first-come, first-served basis. Photos and video recordings are not permitted at the event.

The event is presented by the BGSU College of Education and Human Development, BGSU School of Human Movement, Sport and Leisure Studies, BGSU School of Family and Consumer Sciences, BGSU Office of Multicultural Affairs, BGSU Graduate College, BGSU Athletics, BGSU Sport Management Alliance, BGSU Culture Club and We Are One Team.
