"ASPIRE Through BGSU" lessons, workshops for Erie County residents to begin in March

HURON, Ohio - Bowling Green State University Firelands and community partners continue to create public good and provide educational opportunities for Erie County residents with "ASPIRE Through BGSU."

A collaboration with Sandusky Career Center and EHOVE Career Center, "ASPIRE Through BGSU" is a free virtual, non-credit program offering live courses in math, science, language arts and study strategies. Personal and professional development workshops are also available.

Offered over seven weeks, "ASPIRE Through BGSU" lessons and workshops will begin Monday, March 14. Upon registration, in-person pre-assessments will take place March 3-4 at BGSU Firelands.

"Since its launch, 'ASPIRE Through BGSU' has helped area residents grow their skills and lead meaningful and productive lives," said Brigitte Green-Churchwell, director of Student Academic Enhancement at BGSU Firelands. “The program continues to generate interest from the community and is helping to meet the region's workforce needs."

Committed to being flexible for all learners, those who can't attend live lessons will be able to view recordings of each session at their convenience. Instructors also will be available through virtual appointments.

“Displaced workers who want to improve their skills for more lucrative employment opportunities, high school students who want to try out college and those who have been away from education, but desire to earn a degree or certification are all appropriate candidates for this free academic initiative,” said Kris Thompson, ASPIRE coordinator at Sandusky Career Center.

Initially offered by BGSU Firelands and Sandusky Career Center, "ASPIRE Through BGSU" recently partnered with EHOVE Career Center to expand its reach and provide additional educational resources for those in the region.

“EHOVE is excited to partner with BGSU Firelands and Sandusky Career Center in such an enriching academic opportunity for our region,” said Amy Jo Planthaber, ASPIRE site coordinator at EHOVE Career Center.
