1980s claim Battle of the Decades crown

BGSU’s Battle of the Decades has concluded with 145 alumni showing their support for current and future Falcons by joining the Battle and being counted for their decade.

In total, BGSU alumni collectively raised more than $12,000 over the 30-day Falcon Funded crowdfunding campaign, which includes an anonymous donation of $10 for every alumnus/alumna who made their first gift to BGSU. These gifts will be used to impact students through scholarship and academic support, enriching student life, creating innovative learning spaces, and more.

Graduates of the 1980s were crowned as champions of this alumni participation challenge with 54 alumni joining the Battle of the Decades. Graduates of the 1980s collectively raised more than $5,000.

To celebrate the victory for 1980s graduates, alumni from the decade participated in a long-standing BGSU tradition of painting the spirit rock on Homecoming.

The Battle of the Decades competition ran in conjunction with the University’s Homecoming Celebration. It pitted graduates from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s against one another. Gifts made during the 30-day competition benefited BGSU’s Excellence Fund, which impacts every student on campus.

As part of the participation challenge, 10 alumni, who serve the university in various capacities on the Alumni Board, Young Alumni Council or as Regional Network Leaders, have volunteered their time to help encourage other Falcons to connect with BGSU and to give back. These alumni are: Karen Dempsey Volke, 1974; Dave Glass, 1978; Roc Starks, 1988; Karmen Concannon, 1991; Michelle Remeis, 1992; Matt Maurer, 2006; Stephanie Swiger, 2008; Brittany McNeal, 2008; Dev Kumar, 2012; and Harley Rohrbacher, 2013.
