BGSU to host Music Discovery Day

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts will hold its annual Music Discovery Day on Oct. 19, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Moore Musical Arts Center.

More than 250 high school students register annually for the free, daylong event, designed to let them observe a typical day at the Moore Center. High school students interested in majoring in music are encouraged to attend.

Visiting students may attend classes and clinics on music theory and audition preparation. They will also learn about degrees and majors offered, meet with music faculty members and tour the BGSU campus.

Students can observe rehearsals of the college’s A Cappella Choir, Concert Band, Women’s Chorus, Bowling Green Philharmonia, Men’s Chorus and Falcon Marching Band. There will also be demonstrations and workshops featuring the Indonesian Gamelan and Steel Drum Ensemble, and performances by the philharmonia, Collegiate Chorale and Wind Symphony.

In addition, students will have the opportunity to learn about scholarships. Staff from the University’s admissions and financial aid offices will be available to answer questions.

Students may register online at www.bgsu.edu/musicdiscovery until Monday (Oct. 12). For registration information, contact Kathleen Moss, coordinator of music admissions, at 419-372-8577 or kmoss@bgsu.edu.
