The Department of Political Science extends our sincere thanks to the many individuals who generously supported our students through targeted giving. Your donations help us to assist undergraduate majors from our department and related fields achieve their education goals, study abroad, and complete a variety of extracurricular and leadership opportunities. Gifts of any size are most welcome and gratefully received.
Selected Political Science Priority Funds
Dr. Marc V. Simon passed away in December 2024. Marc was an outstanding member of the Political Science Department who served as Chair multiple times, coordinator of the Peace and Conflict Studies minor, advisor for International Relations Organization, advisor for the Model United Nations, and many other roles. He was a dedicated teacher and mentor, an engaging and supportive colleague, a kind and just administrator, and a considerate and thoughtful person. Dr. Marc Simon is deeply missed by the department.
In his name, the Marc V. Simon Memorial Fund has been established. The fund seeks to provide funding to students and faculty within the Political Science Department with an interest and/or expertise in International Relations or Peace and Conflict Studies. This fund supports students as they pursue experiential learning opportunities, which includes workshops, conferences, professional development, guest speakers, competitions, programmatic operations, and other needed support to further student activities and engaged learning consistent with the legacy of Dr. Marc V. Simon.
Dr. Neil A. Englehart passed away in May 2020. Neil was a Professor in the Political Science Department who served as Chair from 2011 to 2020. He also contributed to the Asian Studies program, International Studies program, and Honors Program at BGSU. Dr. Englehart’s research and publications made him an international expert on human rights, state failure, non-armed groups in Asia, and Southeast Asia in general. Neil loved to travel, as he studied abroad in London for a year and visited 14 countries. Neil was an excellent administrator, wonderful colleague, and a thoughtful, compassionate person. Dr. Neil Englehart is deeply missed by the department.
In his name, the Dr. Neil Andrew Englehart Study Abroad Scholarship has been established. The fund seeks to provide funding to students with an interest in and wishing to study abroad in foreign countries, with a preference for students majoring in Political Science, Asian Studies, or International Studies, and a second preference for studies who demonstrate financial need.
