BGSU kicks off Ohio Tech Day with tech-focused career exploration for high schoolers

The statewide event, which will be held Sept. 25, is designed to inspire students to explore tech and innovation careers

For the second year in a row, Bowling Green State University hosted the official kickoff to Ohio Tech Day 2026 by welcoming high school students from across the region to explore the many career opportunities available in Ohio’s technology and skilled trade sectors.

Ohio Tech Day, which occurs statewide on Friday, Sept. 25, invites companies, schools and organizations to participate in events and programs focused on students and tech-based learning.

Ohio Tech Day is an initiative of Ohio X, a statewide technology and innovation nonprofit trade association working to build Ohio’s tech hub. Additional support was provided by Meta’s Bowling Green Data Center, nonprofit organization Be Pro Be Proud and the University.

This marks Bowling Green’s second consecutive year hosting an Ohio Tech Day launch event. Bowling Green has a long history of partnering with organizations to offer programming that allows youth to explore various career paths through hands-on, immersive activities, valuing its role as a vital part of the region’s robust educational ecosystem.

“Strong partnerships between education and industry are essential to the continued growth and success of our region,” said Steve Russell, BGSU chief partnership officer. “When we bring together organizations with shared interests and expertise, we can create opportunities that strengthen our communities, support workforce needs and contribute to the economic vitality of Ohio.”

During the event, regional high school students explored virtual reality simulations in fields such as welding, HVAC, robotics and electrical work in a mobile workshop called Be Pro Be Proud that travels across the country.

Students also had an opportunity to engage in interactive experiences designed to ignite interest in high-demand careers that combine advanced technology with hands-on craftsmanship.

While on campus, students were introduced to the University’s innovative Career and Life Design program, which serves as a significant differentiator by empowering students to take an active and intentional role in designing their college experience.
