Bowling Green State University supporters donated a record $3.64 million during its annual day of giving, as thousands across the country came together to expand access to higher education and enhance the student experience.
In 36 hours from March 25-26, 4,816 people from all 50 states and around the world donated to BGSU One Day – celebrating its milestone 10th anniversary – surpassing the previous record by nearly $1 million and providing transformational opportunities for students.
"We are so grateful for the incredible generosity displayed by our donors and supporters during this year's record-breaking BGSU One Day," said BGSU President Rodney K. Rogers. "One Day is an especially important initiative for our students, with donors supporting the fund or funds that are most meaningful to them – from scholarships and academic programs to study abroad, arts, athletics, student organizations, professional development opportunities for students and more.
"These gifts directly benefit our students, creating incredible momentum and impact, not only for our students and University, but also for the many communities these students will contribute to throughout their careers and lives. That is the ripple effect of education, and we are deeply appreciative of the support and belief in the power of the Bowling Green experience."
The generous support from alumni, students, faculty and staff, parents and friends helps broaden access to education through scholarships such as the Thompson Working Families Scholarship while enhancing learning through research, study abroad, internships, student organizations and innovative programs like Life Design.
Over the past decade, supporters have helped raise a collective $16.3 million during BGSU One Day, providing life-changing opportunities for current and future Falcons at the No. 1 university in Ohio and among the top five in the nation students say they would choose again.
The impact of BGSU One Day extends across campus, supporting investment in in-demand academic programs, modern facilities and technology that address current and future workforce needs.
The nationally recognized BGSU Life Design program continues to redefine undergraduate education and has been introduced to more than 10,000 students, empowering them to shape their college experience and career goals with design thinking principles that promote on-time graduation and reduced overall debt.
BGSU is also home to over 300 student organizations, including club sports and the 475-member Falcon Marching Band – one of the nation's largest – contributing to its top-ranked student experience.
