Meeting in 1998 as coworkers at a local restaurant, Melanie '07 and Corey King '02 attended BGSU to get a jump start on their careers, but ended up finding each other and becoming Falcon Flames.
Recommitting their love for each other and BGSU, the couple will renew their vows at the Falcon Flames vow renewal event on Saturday, Sept. 13. BGSU President Rodney K. Rogers will lead the ceremony.
While visiting friends at BGSU, Corey King fell in love with the campus and all the city of Bowling Green had to offer. He enrolled as a communication major and began taking classes. Melanie King – interested in the photojournalism program at BGSU – also decided to attend BGSU. Their paths crossed again, this time on campus, and they began dating in 2000.
"BGSU holds a special place in our hearts," Corey King said. "We have so many shared experiences that have made positive impacts on our lives."
Corey and Melanie King continued to date for the next five years, with Melanie continuing at BGSU and Corey graduating in 2002. The two tied the knot in 2005 at the only place that made sense.
"We got married at Prout Chapel at BGSU, and held our reception in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom in the student union," Corey King said. "When it came time to get married, there was no better place to say 'I do' than at BGSU. In doing so, we created an even stronger bond with the University."
Melanie, Corey and their family continue to call BGSU home with their oldest daughter, Ashley, graduating in 2018 and their son, Liam, completing College Credit Plus courses at BGSU.
The Kings will return to BGSU to renew their vows alongside fellow Falcon Flames during the Homecoming event.
"We are looking forward to returning to campus where we created so many good memories and made our original vows to each other," said Corey King. "We will celebrate our 20th anniversary this year, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate than to renew our vows at BGSU."
