Services for Faculty

Library Instruction Teams

The University Libraries offers a variety of instructional services designed to actively integrate information literacy into the curricula and to facilitate students' acquisition of critical thinking and information-seeking skills. Library faculty can provide targeted in-person instruction or online instruction to help your students.

Library instructional services include:

  • Course-related instruction
  • Individualized instruction and assistance in developing library-related assignments
  • Train-the-trainer sessions for graduate assistants, peer mentors or others who may be teaching a course
  • Creating online course guides (LibGuides) about your discipline or class-specific materials that can be embedded into CANVAS
  • Integrating information literacy learning outcomes and assessment into departmental curricula
  • Creating online tutorials
  • Individual Research Appointments which can be booked online. Library Instruction Teams with subject expertise are available for more advanced research consultations.

We welcome opportunities to work with you to customize the right Library Instruction for your class! To request a library instruction service, get in touch with your primary contact listed on the Library Instruction Teams below, or contact Eileen Bosch, our Library Instruction Coordinator.

LibGuides

LibGuides are course- and subject-specific guides designed to help users find specific material types (like images and newspapers), resources for specific subject areas (like music or environmental sciences), or resources to complete specific assignments. If you would like a librarian to create a guide to support your course, please contact your Library Instruction Liaison Team.

Course Reserves

You can put books from the library's collection, your personal books, extra copies of textbooks, or other materials on reserve in the library for your students to use during the semester.

Additional Resources

For several years, University Libraries faculty have facilitated or co-facilitated a learning community through the Center for Faculty Excellence exploring ways to improve student research. Resources and findings of these communities, including sample assignments, can be found in the Improving Student Research guide.

We encourage you to bring your class to the library, either to meet with a librarian or to allow your students to work on their own. You can reserve the computer classroom Jerome 125 through ITS. Many professors also meet with classes in the first floor reference area.

Many faculty assign articles from our databases by saving links to them in Canvas. But the url in the browser bar is not always the url that points back to the article. This guide shows you how to obtain persistent links that will work from on or off campus to articles in EBSCO, JSTOR, LexisNexis, Factiva, and other online database platforms.

This guide includes information about and suggestions for keeping textbooks affordable.
