Meta Brown

Meta Brown is an Associate Professor of Economics at The Ohio State University and a faculty Affiliate of the Center for Aging Families, OSU’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs, and the Institute for Population Research. Dr. Brown and colleagues have established a large administrative data resource at OSU on Ohioans’ credit, employment, and household connections. She is a labor, public, and household finance economist who studies consumer credit and employment across the life cycle, along with the interdependence of family members’ work, education, and financial decisions. Her research has examined the graying of American debt, older workers’ career and financial recovery from job displacement, the financial aftermath of a partner’s death, intergenerational credit sharing, support that parents provide to their adult children through college and beyond, and siblings’ informal care for their parents. Her work on aging families has been funded by the NIA and has appeared in the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Human Resources, and OSU’s Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, among other outlets. Dr. Brown’s research agenda aligns with CAF’s research themes on the changing demography of aging families and aging family health.
