Hyesun Choung is an Assistant Professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University. Her research examines how people adopt, trust, and live alongside emerging communication technologies, with a growing focus on older adults and aging families. She investigates both the promises and the pitfalls of AI voice assistants, chatbots, and other communication technologies for older adults, including their potential to support well-being and social connectivity, as well as concerns around privacy, dependency, and trust. She is also interested in health disparities in aging families, including digital literacy gaps, intergenerational connectivity, and unequal access to digital health resources. Her work has appeared in Health Communication, Journal of Medical Internet Research, Communication Monographs, and the Proceedings of the ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems.
