Marie Dunn joined the Bowling Green State University faculty in 2025 after three years as an adjunct professor. She has taught a variety of courses in marketing and entrepreneurship and strongly believes in bringing real-world experience into the classroom.

Dunn has an extensive background in marketing and communications. She began her career in television news in 1994 while still a junior at BGSU. Her experience at BG24 News helped her land her first job at WTOL-TV in Toledo, where she spent nearly 20 years. Throughout her TV career, Dunn rose to executive producer and won an Emmy for best morning newscast.

Looking to transition out of the television industry, Dunn pursued a career in social media, which was an emerging field at the time. In 2013, she joined BGSU’s Office of Marketing and Brand Strategy as a social media specialist, where she built the university’s social media presence from the ground up. She was the first recipient of the “Rookie of the Year” award, which recognizes a new administrative staff member who has made significant contributions to the university.

While working at BGSU, Dunn earned a master’s degree in strategic communications and social media in 2019. Soon after, she began teaching courses such as Social Media and Society and Viral Buzz Marketing. She paused teaching during the pandemic after accepting a role as social media manager at Cleveland State University.

After eight months at Cleveland State, Dunn chose to remain in northwest Ohio and became the public information officer for the City of Perrysburg. In this role, she oversaw marketing, public relations, media relations and social media for all city departments, and served as the city’s spokesperson. She elevated the city’s communications strategy through integrated marketing—a course she now teaches at BGSU. It was during her time with the City of Perrysburg that she resumed teaching at the Schmidthorst College of Business.
