How to Register Your Co-op

Review the Co-op Orientation in Canvas prior to registering your co-op.

To register for your Co-op course (TECH 2890, 3890 or 4890), you will need to provide your personal information as well as the following information to complete the registration form:

Name, street address, web address of the Employer.
Name, title, email, phone of your expected co-op supervisor or hiring authority.
Your co-op position title and description.
Dates, hours, and number of weeks you will be working.
Compensation for your employment.

The summer 2024 co-op registration application is available now, however final processing will be delayed until February 12th when the summer registration window opens.

Registration link. The dates for a fulltime summer co-op should encompass the 12 week summer session.

Starting in fall 2022 the University approved a co-op credit hour reduction. Your course requirements are listed on your program checksheet.  Refer to your degree audit via your student center for your catalog year. Reference YOUR checksheet associated with YOUR catalog year to review co-op requirements.

  • Students in an aviation program have the option of registering a 1 or 4 credit co-op.
  • Students in all other CTAAE programs whose catalog year is before fall 2022 have the option of registering a 1-credit or 4-credit co-op.
  • Students in all other CTAAE programs whose catalog year is fall 2022 or after will automatically be registered for a 1-credit co-op.

*All Co-op Requirements remain the same for both one and four credit co-ops.

Carefully review the information below if you are in an aviation program or any other CTAAE program with a catalog year before fall 2022.

Every students situation is unique. Consider the factors below to determine what option will benefit you most, based on your personal goals and graduation plan.

  • To earn your degree you must complete all required courses and earn:
    • a minimum of 122 total credit hours.
    • a minimum of 40 credit hours from 3000 level or higher courses.

  • Review the requirements for your major as listed in your catalog year (see degree audit).
  • Compare your audit to the required courses listed for your major in your catalog year.
  • Analyze and update your graduation plan.

  • Consult with your academic advisor for assistance.
  1. Co-op Registration Application is submitted by the student.
  2. The Office of Cooperative Education reviews your application to confirm that it has all of the information and meets the co-op requirements.
    1. The Co-op Office will contact you if there are any questions.
  3. Upon approval by theOffice of Cooperative Education it is sent to your department for final approval.
  4. Your department is reviewing the information on your co-op registration application for:
    1. Is your proposed co-op related to your major?
    2. Are you working one full semester, 40 hours a week?
              (or 20 hours/week for 2 consecutive semesters, if applying for the part-time format)
    3. Are you being supervised/mentored? (students cannot be self employed).   
    4. Are you being paid a reasonable wage as set forth by the U.S. Department of Labor.
  5. Upon final approval your co-op the Office of Cooperative Education will register you for your co-op course.
  6. Students should monitor their BGSU email and schedule for updates and notifications.

A part-time co-op registration will only show that you are registered for your co-op during the FIRST semester of the 2 semester, part-time format.  

A part-time co-op occurs over two consecutive semester, but all official paperwork is processed the first semester.

DURING THE 1st SEMESTER

  • Apply/Register for your co-op course.
  • Pay the tuition for the credit bearing co-op course.
  • Earn a passing score on your co-op report and co-op photo.
  • Participate in the co-op site review.
  • Work at least 20 hours each week during both semesters.
  • At the end of this semester, you will temporarily receive a grade of "IP" which will then be changed to an "S", pending successful completion of ALL co-op requirements listed above and below.

DURING THE 2nd SEMESTER

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RE-REGISTER YOUR Co-op (Already completed in first semester)

  • Continue working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Your supervisor must send an email to the co-op office verifying you have worked the minimum required co-op hours.
  • At the end of this semester your grade will be updated to S/U.

E-Campus students in Management and Technology (M&T) and Quality Systems (QS) degree programs follow a different co-op requirement protocol. Consult with your faculty advisor and E-Campus advisor.

*International students must consult with the International Programs and Partnerships Office for information about work authorization requirements.
