Sigma Gamma Epsilon

BGSU’s Beta Upsilon chapter of the national Earth Sciences Honors Society Sigma Gamma Epsilon (SGE) is one of the oldest active chapters in the United States, chartered in 1959. SGE was established in 1915 to recognize scholarship and professionalism in the Earth Sciences. It has for its objectives the scholastic, scientific, and professional advancement of its members and the extension of relations of friendship and assistance among colleges and universities which are devoted to the advancement of the Earth Sciences. Today there are nearly 200 SGE chapters at universities and colleges throughout the United States. To be eligible to join SGE, you must have completed at least 10 credit hours of Earth Science courses, have a minimum overall GPA of 2.67, and a minimum GPA of 3.00 in your Earth Science courses. Our chapter of SGE partners with Geology Club to plan academically-oriented events and engage in service activities, and participates in the biennial national SGE convention. SGE members wear special SGE honor cords at graduation.
