Open Enrollment for 2026

  • Review all the information on the HR Benefits webpage. The benefits brochure section is available to assist you with comparing plans and review other relevant information as you consider your 2026 plan selections.
  • Review your current plan selections in your Benefits Summary in MyBGSU.
  • If you are covering a spouse on your 2026 medical plan, have readily available the name and email address of your spouse's employee representative if they are employed full-time outside of BGSU. This is needed for the required annual spousal certification form.
  • If you are newly covering a spouse and/or child(ren), have readily available proof of dependency as required.

  • Health Savings Account maximums are increased (totals include both employee and employer contributions). Individuals aged 55 and older may make an additional $1,000 'catch-up' contribution annually to their Health Savings Account (HSA). This is in addition to the amounts listed below and does not change for 2026.
            $4,400 single
            $8,750 family
  • Flexible Spending Account maximum contributions and carryover allowance have increased.
            $3,300 maximum contribution
            $660 carryover allowance
  • Flexible Spending Account maximum contributions for Dependent Care - $7,500.
  • There are no coverage changes for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability plans.
  • Information regarding all of the plans and corresponding employee contributions can be located in each section of the HR Benefits website.  Please review all information prior to making your selections for 2026.
  • Your 2025 coverage elections will continue for 2026 even if you do not make new elections, except the FSA and HSA. If you would like to contribute to the FSA or HSA, the IRS requires new elections annually.
  • If you are covering a spouse on your medical insurance, you are required to complete a Spousal Certification Form annually. This form can be located in the HR Benefits website under the Health & Prescription tab. To be considered for 2026, the form must be completed after Oct. 1, 2025 and before 5 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2025.
  • BGSU offers three voluntary benefit options through Securican. For plan information, pricing and how to contact a Securian representative please see the Voluntary Benefits tab in the HR Benefits website. You can elect the voluntary plan(s) of your choice within the MyBGSU benefits portal while completing your Open Enrollment.
  • If you are adding dependents to your 2026 coverage that have not been covered on any BGSU insurance plan during 2025, you must submit the required proof of eligibility (in English) to the Office of Human Resources by 5 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2025. No late documents will be accepted, and those dependents will not be covered for 2026.
  • If you want to contribute to a Flexible Spending Account(FSA) or a Health Savings Account(HSA) for 2026, the IRS requires that you elect that plan and select the amount you would like to contribute each year.  Any elections from 2025 will NOT continue in 2026 unless you make new elections. Please make your election for the HSA in the online enrollment system via the MyBGSU portal. The HSA form is only to be used for mid-year changes.
  • If you elect life insurance or long-term disability that requires Evidence of Insurability (the system will let you know when you enroll), you must submit the completed forms by 5 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2025. No late documents will be accepted, and you will not be considered for the additional coverage for 2026. The long-term disability evidence of insurability form must be submitted directly to the carrier electronically. The life insurance evidence of insurability form must be submitted directly to Human Resources. The links are available in the MyBGSU portal as you make your plan selections.
  • Open Enrollment is a great time to check your life insurance beneficiaries to make sure they are up to date. Remember you need to check both Basic Life and Supplemental/Optional Life as both plans have beneficiary options and must both be completed separately.
