Schmidthorst College of Business recognizes faculty achievements for 2024-25 academic year

Celebrating Dr. Maggie Brooks: Leading the Way in Research

The Schmidthorst College of Business is thrilled to announce Dr. Maggie Brooks' appointment as the prestigious O-I professor. This recognizes her significant work in Industrial-Organizational (IO) Psychology, focusing on improving workplace decisions by reducing "noise" – unwanted inconsistencies that lead to errors.

Dr. Brooks, in collaboration with BGSU's Professor Scott Highhouse, has shown through her research, "Improving Workplace Judgments by Reducing Noise," that using structured processes and combining independent opinions are key to making better organizational decisions. Her work highlights how often-ignored "noise" can negatively affect outcomes in various professional settings.

As the O-I professor, Dr. Brooks will continue her important research on topics like AI in hiring and workplace inclusion, and she will work to make research findings useful for businesses. She's also committed to building a strong research community by connecting junior faculty with experienced scholars and professionals. A major goal of her professorship is to connect academic research with the real-world needs of organizations by working directly with them.

Dr. Brooks' dedication to thorough research and her focus on practical applications promise to bring valuable advancements to the field, leading to fairer and more effective outcomes for organizations and individuals.
