  • Three New Faculty Excellence Awards Presented May 16, 2014 3:30 PM The College of Business and the Board of Advocates are pleased to announce the winners of the three new Faculty Excellence Awards established in 2014. The Excellence in Teaching Award was presented to Dr. Mary Ellen Benedict, chair and Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Department of Economics. Dr. Jan Hartley, professor in the Department of Management and director of the Supply Chain Management Institute, received the award for Engagement with Industry to Foster Experiential Learning. The Board presented Dr. Earl McKinney, MIS Professor with the award for Using Technology to Improve Learning Outcomes.

  • Students Run Record Labels to Learn Marketing Principles As Class Project May 15, 2014 2:54 PM “I had so much fun and wish all courses had projects like this!” said BGSU junior Emma Sales. She was referencing the marketing class project where students launched their own record label. This was part of Dr. Greg Rich’s Introduction to Marketing (MKT 3000) course this spring.

  • Summer Research Grants Announced for College of Business May 9, 2014 2:51 PM The College of Business sees how critical it is for faculty to conduct scholarly research, so each year the College financially supports projects through Summer Research Awards. Members of the College’s Faculty Achievement Committee and Dean Ray Braun are pleased to announce the following award winners for the summer of 2014 and their research project titles:

  • Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame Inducts Class of 2014 May 9, 2014 8:30 AM In a formal black-tie ceremony, four world-class innovators were honored on April 10 for their successful achievements - Earle Malm ’71, Valerie Newell ’75, Lori Steele-Contorer ’86, and Kermit Stroh ’02 (Hon.). These alumni were inducted into the Dallas-Hamilton Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame, joining 30 other entrepreneurs who have already been honored.

  • CBA Points Program a Success in Fall; Expands for Spring May 8, 2014 11:54 AM The CBA Rewards Point Program incentivizes students to attend College of Business events or qualified College activities. Those events include actions such as attending CBA, department and/or CBA student organization activities. This program is meant to assist students to engage in more extra-curricular activities. All College of Business undergraduate and graduate students are eligible, and there is no enrollment needed.

  • BGSU Has Been a Place of Great Opportunities for Graduating Accounting Student May 7, 2014 3:06 PM After completing high school in three years due to the post-secondary education program, Ce’Ara Rice-Malkowski was excited to go to college and continue her love for math and budgeting. Initially she planned on going out of state to college, but she chose Bowling Green State University over several prestigious private schools to pursue her business education because of what she found here… great personal attention and a caring support system. Rice-Malkowski graduated in May with a specialization in accounting and is the first in her family to graduate.

  • Student Finishes His Academic Studies in France; Quite a Learning Experience May 7, 2014 9:38 AM As my second semester at the University of Strasbourg School of Management in France has progressed, I have had a number of new experiences in the French education system. Of course I have also been doing more traveling around Europe and will share these excursions with you.

  • Ryan Shukis Completes Dream Internship in Switzerland at Owens-Illinois European Headquarters May 6, 2014 10:15 PM Ryan Shukis, a student in the College of Business tri-specializing in finance, marketing and international business and minoring in German, is graduating in May with a portfolio that resembles someone well established in his career, not someone just getting started.

  • Two Graduating International Students Give High Praise to BGSU May 6, 2014 4:23 PM We hear about the great experience our American students have in the College of Business, but what about the perspective from students who travel far from their native countries to come to Bowling Green? Why did they choose this midwestern university as a place to obtain their business education? Two international students, Evangelos Lefkonikiatis and Andreas Fylaktou, hail from Cyprus, a small island country east of Greece. They chose to study at BGSU for two main reasons - the College of Business’s national recognition and good recommendations from BGSU alumni. After completing their undergraduate business degrees in May 2014, they both have high praise for their college education.

  • Business Students Getting “FIT” Before Interviewing with Job Recruiters May 5, 2014 1:34 PM Being “FIT” takes on another meaning in the College of Business besides being physically fit. It is about being professionally prepared to interview with employers. Based on employer feedback, the Business Career Accelerator has created a new online initiative which is designed to prepare students for the highest level of professionalism when engaging and interviewing with employers. “FIT” stands for Finest Individual Talent and incoming freshmen, starting in the fall, will be required to become certified prior to any interviews for employment.

  • CBA Graduate Earns Two Prestigious National Investor Honors May 1, 2014 2:10 PM Leo Svoboda, a 2008 BGSU graduate with a degree in economics/financial economics, is one of six winners of the 2014 Investor Intelligence Awards recognizing the most outstanding and innovative Corporate Plan Sponsors in North America. Nominations were submitted by nearly 800 asset allocators and additional feedback was solicited from nearly 600 asset managers. Categories include: Rising Star award; Investor Intelligence award in Defined Contribution; Delivering Retirement Security; Alpha Generation; and Liability Matching.

  • Finance Students Learn from World’s Most Influential Investment Leaders May 1, 2014 9:31 AM Fourteen members of the BGSU Financial Management Society, along with their faculty advisor Michael Slates, had the unique opportunity to listen to some of the most influential people in the world of investing and finance at the Dayton RISE (Redefining Investment Strategy Education) Conference.
