Summer Head Start Program

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at BGSU is pleased to offer the Summer Head Start Program for new graduate assistants supported by the department. The Program will run from June through August. The Fellowship carries a stipend of $1000 and includes a tuition scholarship.

The focus of the Program is a teaching seminar (MATH 5900) aimed at easing the transition to classroom teaching duties in the Fall. Participants will also have the opportunity to take a class in mathematics or statistics for graduate credit (international students may instead take an English class). This early exposure to graduate study will prove helpful in designing your degree program and in adjusting to your new surroundings.

The Summer Head Start Program is part of the Department's continuing commitment to quality instruction. Throughout your first year at BGSU, you will have opportunities for a wide variety of training and mentoring experiences. All new students are asked to participate in a two-semester seminar on teaching and other issues related to your professional development (a continuation of MATH 5900). In addition, all new students are assigned an academic adviser as well as a faculty mentor. Your adviser will help you design a suitable degree program while your mentor is available for assistance with your overall development as both a teacher and as a student.

The Summer Head Start Program is designed with your success in mind. All new students are strongly encouraged to attend. For questions, comments, or further details, please contact:
