Experience Conversion Definitions

When developing job descriptions at Bowling Green State University, it's important to accurately reflect the qualifications and experience needed for each position. To ensure that candidates with varied backgrounds are considered fairly, we apply experience conversion definitions, which allow for a more inclusive evaluation of different types of experience. Experience conversion is the process of equating non-professional or part-time experiences with full-time, professional experience based on the skills and competencies gained.

For example, two years of experience as a Graduate Assistant (GA) or through student employment can be considered equivalent to one year of professional experience. This conversion recognizes the valuable skills developed in these roles, such as time management, leadership, and problem-solving, which are often transferable to full-time positions. Experience conversion definitions help broaden the candidate pool and ensure that a diverse range of applicants, including those with academic or student-focused experience, can be considered for positions at BGSU.
