FAQ
F.A.Q.
Rotations begin the 7th week of the fall semester. Distance interns may elect to begin rotations at the start of Bowling Green State University’s spring semester, typically the second week in January.
No, but interns are required to complete the long-term care (nursing home) rotation before the clinical (in-patient hospital/acute) rotation. Long term care or foodservice are good choices for your first rotation.
Some interns choose to do a combination. When making this decision, consider your future career goals - if you see yourself in a hospital environment, being familiar with this type of foodservice system would likely be more beneficial. It is also possible to complete your foodservice rotation in a community setting. The Area Office on Aging in your area may have a foodservice operation that provides food for congregate meal sites or meals on wheels.
Distance interns will recieve guidance about preceptor and site information forms at BGSU DI Orientation. Distance Interns should aim to have the majority of their sites secured and rotation schedule mapped by October 1st of the internship year. As soon as a site is secured, Distance Interns need to connect the preceptor to the Program Director via an email introduction. Be sure to include the type of rotation this will fulfill and the FULL NAME of the site in this email introduction. Using this information, the Program Director will initiate the Affiliation Agreement between BGSU and the site.
An affiliation agreement is a legal agreement between two parties. For internship, this is a legal agreement between the site and BGSU. In most cases, sites will accept the terms outlined in a BGSU issued affiliation agreement. However, if the site requires that BGSUU use their affiliation agreement, the site's proposed language will need to be reviewed by the BGSU Office of General Counsel. This can take some time. It is imperative that Distance Interns secure the preceptor and site by mid-October to keep this procedure in motion. Interns cannot begin a rotation until a signed affiliation agreement is in place. Procrastination in this area is a common reason why interns are not able to keep "on schedule" while completing rotations.
No- While the majority of rotation sites should be secured by October 1 of Fall 1 semester, you may keep your elective weeks unscheduled, as needed. Some opportunities may present themselves during the course of your rotations.
