Business student-athletes head to WCHA championship

Over half of the BGSU hockey team, heading to its first conference championship game since 1990, is majoring in business.
All five seniors on the team, plus nine other players, are business majors.
Senior supply chain management major and team captain Sean Walker said, “Being a student-athlete has been one of the best things in my life. Not only am I able to get a great education, but I’m also able to play hockey from a Division One program. The opportunity to be a student-athlete has helped me grow as a player and a person over the past four years.”
The team sometimes travels as far as Canada to compete, and student-athletes need to balance a rigorous competition season with their school work. Walker praises his experiences in the classroom as well as on the ice.
“BGSU’s College of Business Administration has given me many opportunities,” Walker said. “The CBA gives all its students the opportunity to develop the skills needed for the real world and life after college.”
In addition to networking opportunities and job fairs, Walker said, “we do speed interviews with actual companies for one of our business classes. The college is constantly informing students about events offered on campus that can help them be successful.”
Walker joins his teammates on the ice on Saturday, March 18, for the WCHA Championship game in Houghton, Mich.
