Three Minute Thesis - Founded by the University of Queensland

Dates

The BGSU Graduate College is planning a live Three Minute Thesis competition.  The deadline to register is Friday, February 6, 2026.  The event will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 2:30pm in the BTSU Theatre.  The first place winner will represent BGSU at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) 3MT competition on Friday, March 27, 2026 in Kansas City, MO.

About

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition celebrates the exciting research conducted by graduate students.  Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), 3MT hones students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills.

The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.  For some, it helps to develop an "elevator speech" for their research.

Eligibility

  • Doctoral and Plan I Master’s students must have an approved Topic Approval Form on file with the Graduate College.  Plan II Master’s students completing research-based culminating experiences must submit a Request to Participate Form to provide information on their Plan II experience and to obtain advisor approval.  In addition, all students are required to be enrolled at BGSU at some point during the academic year.  Those who have completed degree requirements in the immediately preceding summer or fall semester, qualify to participate also.  Final determinations regarding eligibility are made by the Graduate College.
