Tri-Beta @ BGSU

The Alpha Beta chapter of Tri-Beta (Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society) was founded at Bowling Green State University in 1952.  Tri-Beta is an organization for students committed to promoting the understanding and appreciation of biology and gaining knowledge in the life sciences through scientific investigation.  Tri-Beta intends to enrich knowledge learned in the classroom by supplementing it with opportunities to exchange ideas and information with others who share an interest in the biological sciences. 

Membership

Regular membership:  One time fee of $50.  Only regular members may hold chapter offices and receive honor cords.  Requirements for regular membership:

  • Major in the biological sciences.
  • Completion of three semesters of classes of a four-year curriculum.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00 in three or more biology courses with at least one course beyond introductory biology (BIOL 2040 and 2050).
  • Good academic standing.

Associate membership: Open to all students interested in the life sciences. One time fee of $40.  Associate members may be promoted to regular membership once the requirements are met.

Activities

Past activities include presenting an undergraduate research symposium, organizing biology t-shirt fundraisers, going on nature walks, and hosting speakers to learn about graduate school and careers in the biological sciences. In addition, Tri-Beta members have participated in an undergraduate internship panel, offered tutoring services, judged local science fairs, and conducted independent research projects that have been entered in competition with other Tri-Beta members.
