Accreditation
The teacher education programs in the School of Teaching and Learning are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Educators (NCATE) with a move toward the new process under the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)  http://caepnet.org/.

Program Offered:
The Master of Education in Teacher Education is a 15-month program designed to prepare person’s possessing a bachelor’s degree with a major (or equivalent) or minor (or equivalent) in an appropriate content area to qualify for initial teacher licensure in the State of Ohio. Certification specializations include: Mathematics – grades 7-12; Science – grades 7-12 (chemistry, earth sciences, integrated sciences, life sciences, physics); and World Languages – grades K-12 (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish).

Prerequisites for Graduate Work
Prerequisites for the M.Ed. programs include a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Admission Procedure
Applicants seeking admission to the graduate programs offered by the School of Teaching and Learning should follow the instructions outlined in the Graduate Admission section of this catalog.

Degree Requirements

Master of Education in Teacher Education
Candidates must complete a minimum of 39 semester hours* of graduate work approved by the graduate coordinator. Required courses include:

Professional core – EDFI 6030, EDFI 6720, EDIS 5310, EDTL 5020, EDTL 5200, EDTL 6000, and EDTL 6120 (21 credits).

Content methods – one course selected from: EDTL 5290, EDTL 5740, and EDTL 5750 (3 credits).

Research core – EDFI 6450, EDTL 6530, and EDTL 6840 (9 credits).

Teaching internship – EDTL 6890 (6 credits).

Embedded in course work, candidates complete a classroom-based, action-research project in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree.

*Optional content electives – courses selected in collaboration with advisor (3-9 credits).
