When you enter the English (Literature) degree, you explore reading and writing in context in order to enhance your skills through analysis, contextualization, critical thinking, creativity, and teaching.

Exploration of theory and practice in critical thinking, analyzing literature in context, and using communication technologies effectively

Minor in English Literature

Critical reading and writing in historical, cultural, and multicultural contexts

Graduate Degrees

MA in Literary and Textual Studies (Paused)

Foundation in research methods and literary theory

Our Mission:

The Literature Program at BGSU helps students:

  • Develop understanding of subject matter in relation to larger historical and/or cultural contexts, including multicultural contexts.
  • Make connections between theory and practice, applying that theory not only to understanding texts, but also to solving problems and teaching effectively.
  • Generalize from experiences with texts, communication situations, and teaching situations.
  • Develop skills of creative and/or critical thinking.
