National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association

NSSLHA stands for the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Local NSSLHA is the BGSU chapter formed by undergraduate and graduate students interested in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior. NSSLHA is the only official national student association recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

  • To encourage professional interest among college students interested in the field of communication disorders.
  • To provide current professional information to students.
  • To provide a vehicle for student representation in matters of educational and professional concern.
  • To assist the university departments and the community in speech, language, and hearing matters.

Any BGSU student, not yet eligible for membership in the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, interested in the area of normal and disordered communication behavior is eligible for membership. Members need not be Communication Disorders majors.

  • Student representation on the legislative council of ASHA.
  • Educational enhancement.
  • Exposure to professionals and valuable information in the field of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Participation in a pre-professional organization
  • Exposure to current information on the local, state, and national levels.
  • Receive a discount on your ASHA membership application through the Conversion Program (national).

No. Membership in the local chapter is independent of membership in the national organization.

No. Membership in the national organization is separate from the membership in a local chapter. Neither is a requirement for membership in the other.

Yes. It is highly encouraged. Local membership is as educationally and personally valuable as national membership. National membership gives students the opportunity to collect professional journals for the minimum cost and provides students with a discount to the registry cost of the national ASHA convention.

Local: $30.00 per year. $20.00 per semester.

National: $60.00 per year.
