March 2022 Dean’s Message

Greetings from the Schmidthorst College of Business! With midterms behind us, we are looking forward to an exciting finish to the semester.

The 10th Annual E-Week is fast approaching, with events taking place the week of April 18-22. E-Week, presented by the Paul J. Hooker Center Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, is a week of celebrating the accomplishments of our students, recognize alumni, welcome entrepreneurial leaders from around the world and have some fun. Several E-Week events like The Hatch (meet the rest of our Hatchlings) are open to the general public. We hope you'll join us as we explore this year's theme of "Turning Lemons into Lemonade." The theme was inspired by the book "Plato's Lemonade Stand: Stirring Change into Something Great" by Tom Morris, this year's Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship keynote speaker.

On April 9, the Schmidthorst College of Business will host the LEAPS (Learn, Explore, and Apply Professional Skills) Conference from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm in the Maurer Center. Students are invited to attend the free conference where they will learn many professional skills and network with a vast array of employers. Questions can be directed to leaps@bgsu.edu or via Instagram at @bgsuleapsconf.

Earlier this month, the second annual Young Women in Leadership Conference kicked off Women’s History Month. Read more about the successful event!

The Schmidthorst College of Business has recently welcomed several new faces! We welcome Mary Wold, senior secretary to the dean, and Carol Nungester, senior secretary, and Katrina Heilmeier, assistant director of recruitment.

Congrautlations to the new cohort of Schmidthorst College of Business Student Ambassadors who just completed their seven-week preparatory course covering networking, public speaking and teamwork! With the commencement of their class and final networking dinner, they are now fully initiated into the organization. We cannot wait to see what they accomplish during their time as ambassadors.

We also want to congratulate the competitors and finalists for the NCSC sales competition, along with winning team members of the MAPFRE Case Competition.

Additionally, we have a new student organization in the College of Business, the Business Innovation and Technology (BIT) organization. Learn more about BIT.

We are looking forward to the rest of the semester and the many exciting upcoming events!

Warm Regards,
Ray Braun '80
Dean
